SPRINGFIELD – State officials are stressing the importance of Breast Cancer screenings.
Whether it be because of COVID-19 concerns, you don’t have enough time, or you’re scared for the results, Comptroller Susana Mendoza urges women not to put off getting their annual Mammogram.
“Especially if you are a woman of color, your life and your health are too important to delay this important screening. We know that too many Black and Latina women die of Breast Cancer because they don’t receive screenings or get screened too late. Don’t let this be you.”
According to the State Department of Public Health, more than 1,800 Illinois women will die from Breast Cancer this year alone.
Mammograms can detect 90% of Cancers, even before a lump can be felt.
Some warning signs of cancer include a lump, thickening or swelling of a part of the breast, pain in the breast, and redness or flaky skin around the nipple area.
