MOLINE – The new I-74 bridge over the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities is nearly complete.

Construction of the bridge connecting Bettendorf, Iowa to Moline, Illinois has been underway for more than four years. The structure features two large arches and four lanes in each direction says State Department of Transportation Secretary Omer Osman.

“While safety is certainly a major part of this project, and I know tales about the tight squeeze to get across the old bridge are actually legendary, it is much more than that. Today, we are creating a gateway,” said Osman.

The bridge is expected to open to traffic early this month and also has a 14 foot wide bike and pedestrian path.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
