CLINTON – Two local nonprofits received an early Christmas gift from a local Nuclear Power plant.

Throughout the year, employees at the Clinton Power Station pledged more than $237,000 to 196 charities through an employee giving campaign.

On the receiving end of $5,000, checks include The Vault Community Center and the Neighborhood Care Center in Clinton.

In addition, the Neighborhood Care Center will use the funds to support the Neighborhood Market, serving those in need in Clinton.

“Because of the generosity of the Clinton Power Station, we are able to serve over 200 tens each week by providing recreational programs, tutoring, crisis resources, enrichment classes, businesses, and leadership programs, summer career camps, and community service opportunities – all of which will help them recognize their value, realize their potential, and ultimately reach their goals,” Tammy Wilson, Executive Director of The Vault added.

According to a news release, nuclear power plant employees pledged nearly $2.9 million to more than 2,200 different charities across the state.

The donations will be distributed throughout 2022.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
