Illinois gas prices up 10 cents over the week

BLOOMINGTON – Gas prices in the state are up 10 cents over the week, averaging $3.43 a gallon, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 4,378 stations in Illinois.

According to GasBuddy, prices are 2 cents lower than a month ago, but just over a dollar higher than a year ago.

The cheapest station in Illinois was priced at $2.89 on Sunday while the most expensive was $4.29, according to GasBuddy price reports.

The national average has risen 2 cents in the last week, averaging $3.29 a gallon.

“Oil prices have remained stubbornly strong, touching nearly $80 per barrel last week, pushing gasoline prices higher even as U.S. gasoline demand starts to struggle. Some of this is typical seasonal weakness, but the lack of demand is likely enhanced by omicron cases surging and Americans who are just a bit more hesitant to get out right now,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy.
