BLOOMINGTON- Lots of families added a new fluffy member to their homes in 2021, but large amounts of animals were taken in by the Bloomington’s Humane Society. Eight hundred and eighty nine animals were brought in says Shelter Manager Jane Kahman,

With the sizable sum of animals joining the Humane Society this past year, donations are continued to be needed to care for the pets. Kahman spoke with WJBC’s Todd Wineburner on what Central Illinois residents could donate.

“We always need bleach, paper towels and those types of items. Right now, if people are cleaning out their linen closets, we could use some old sheets and old towels.” said Kahman.

Folks interested in supporting the Humane Society can leave donations on the green benches located on the east side of the shelter building. The Humane Society can be found at 423 N Kays Dr. in Normal, and more information can be seen at hscipets.org.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
