SPRINGFIELD – There’s skepticism over the government’s coronavirus numbers. And the director of the Illinois Department of Public Health says there is something to that.
Dr. Ngozi Ezike gives one example:
“Because of the ubiquitousness of omicron,” Ezike said during Gov. JB Pritzker’s news conference Wednesday, “there are people who maybe went in for hip surgery, but, as you intubate them, you definitely want the staff to be protected, so you need to know their status,” adding the medical team needs the proper PPP for the procedure for a covid-positive patient.
And Ezike says for the purposes of this discussion, there’s no such thing as “herd immunity.”
“Australia is ninety percent vaccinated, and they don’t have herd immunity,” Ezike said. “They still have outbreaks. They still see an uptick.”
