MCLEAN COUNTY – The cleanup of roadways across McLean County continues as crews continue to work around the clock.
McLean County Highway Coordinator Ben Kahle said the county’s roadways are in better shape than expected.
“When we started at 4:00 a.m. this morning, they got out there, and everybody was kind of surprised that things held up over the night pretty well. I just checked with most of our drivers, and most of our lanes are opened up to two lanes of traffic both ways, so we’re sitting good on that, we think.”
Kahle said snowdrifts and banks froze overnight thanks to frigid temperatures, allowing snow-plow drivers to clear the roadways better than expected.
“With the ice that came first, it kind of saved us – we think because it just made the roads a little bit slicker, and it just pushed that snow across. And then the event came along, and we just went out and attacked. We tried to keep the roads open as best as we could and work our 12 to 16-hour shift.
When we pulled off, most of the people out there were cognizant of stay home, which was a good deal for McLean County.”
