NORMAL – The governor made a stop Tuesday in the Twin-Cities to tout his budget proposal and investments in higher education.

Gov. Pritzker’s 2023 budget proposal includes $2.2 billion for higher education. He spoke during a news conference at the Bone Student Center.

“Supporting higher education is key to empowering Illinois’ next generation,” said Pritzker. “The stronger our colleges and universities are the greater our prospect for economic growth and for jobs. And for a more innovative and inclusive future for our state.”

ISU President Dr. Terri Goss Kinzy says one highlight of the proposal is increased funding for the Monetary Award Program, which provides grants to Illinois students with financial need.

Kinzy says around 6,000 ISU students benefit from the MAP program.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
