BLOOMINGTON – A 7-month old infant remains missing, as a Bloomington woman is facing two counts of felony child endangerment as police continue to search for the baby.

On Saturday, Bloomington Police arrested Kimberlee Burton, 29, at a retail store in the 2200 block of W. Market St. for retail theft.

Police say after the arrest, the father of Burton’s children’s mother came to pick up a five and 6-year old at Burton’s residence, but an infant was missing.

According to a release, officers executed search warrants for Burton’s residence to conduct a more thorough search and to collect evidence for the investigation.

During the search warrants, officers learned that the father of Zaraz may have lived in Illinois or Florida.

In addition, investigators began calling different areas and police departments where the father may be but came up empty.

On Monday, BPD charged Burton, who is still at the McLean County Jail, with two counts of felony child endangerment for the two young children who were left at her residence without supervision after her arrest.

“We implore members of the community to view Zaraz’s and Burton’s photo and to please call us with any tips or information,” said Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington in a news release. “We believe Zaraz was last seen 5-7 days ago and could be anywhere.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Sgt. Detective Jared Bierbaum at 309-434-2807 or [email protected].

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
