CHICAGO – Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is announcing final approval of the national $26 billion opioid settlement agreement.
Illinois’ share is $760 million, with the money going out to state and local governments covered by the deal during the second quarter of this year. Raoul says the funds will be used to fight problems caused by addictive opiates.
“The opioid epidemic has destroyed countless lives and families throughout our state and has devastated communities,” said Raoul. “It is imperative that the resources reach these areas and be used to bate the problem.”
This is the second largest multi-state agreement in U.S. history and is the result of three years of negotiations with companies like Johnson and Johnson, Cardinal, McKesson and Amerisource-Bergen.
