NORMAL – Normal Police Chief Rick Bleichner on Monday announced plans to retire at the end of April 2022.
“I have given this great consideration and the time is right,” said Bleichner in a news release. “The organization has six new recruits preparing to report to the academy at the end of April and I am confident the department is headed in a positive direction.”
“I cannot adequately express my gratitude for all the opportunities I have been afforded during my career,” Bleichner adds. “It has been my greatest professional honor to lead the Normal Police Department.”
Bleichner has served as the chief of police since 2011 and joined the Town of Normal in 1991. During his tenure, Bleichner served as a patrol officer, field training officer, detective and in all phases of operations and support.
“The Town of Normal has been fortunate to have Chief Bleichner lead the Normal Police Department for more than a decade,” said Normal City Manager Pamela Reece. “He has served with the highest ideals of professionalism and integrity and is a role model to many.”
Reece will announce plans for Bleichner’s replacement by the end of the month.
