BLOOMINGTON – Catalytic Converter thefts are on the rise across central Illinois, and one local police department reports thieves are targeting select vehicles.
According to the Bloomington Police Department, thieves are targeting Mitsubishi Outlander Sport vehicles.
Police report those vehicles make up over 50% of cars impacted by thieves.
“These are happening between midnight and 5 a.m., and there are multiple crews operating in the area,” BPD said in a Facebook post.
Police encouraged citizens to park in well-lit areas and to install catalytic converter-specific security devices.
Anyone who sees’ thieves attempting to steal catalytic converters are encouraged to contact BPD at 309-820-8888.
