BLOOMINGTON-Fake postcards offering Walmart or Target gift savings have been reported in West Peoria today (on Wednesday), and the Better Business Bureau of Central Illinois expects others in the area will be receiving it soon.
Jessica Tharp, President and CEO of BBB, spoke with WJBC’s Scott Miller on what to do if you receive this scam.
“To stop a scam you need to report the scam. We do recommend you do call our office because we will log it into our scam tracker tool where we can target where the scam has been and then we work with federal authorities like the postal inspector,” Tharp said.
Mail fraud is punishable by a fine and imprisonment for up to 20 years.
If you receive a postcard you believe to be a scam, you are urged to call the Better Business Bureau to file a report. You can dial BBB at 309-688-3741.
