Federal Mediator to be involved in ISU and worker’s union negotiations

NORMAL – A federal mediator will now be involved after no agreement was made between Illinois State University and their worker’s union, AFSCME Local 1110.

ISU and the union met twice last week hoping to come to an agreement over their contracts. Union workers have been working without contracts for the past 8 months.

AFSMCE represents more than 300 grounds, dining and custodial workers at the university. Last week, the union voted to authorize a strike.

After the last meeting Friday, only the union provided a counter proposal on wages in the negotiations.

Anders Lindall, director of public affairs for the union said they were disappointed and claimed ISU failed to make any real movement.

“With the attitude of ISU administration to this point we have to ask, does ISU care about it’s workers? It hasn’t shown it,” said Landall.

ISU says it remains prepared and ready to continue meaningful negotiations.
