BLOOMINGTON – It has been nearly a week since Lincoln College announced it was closing the school after 157 years.
Lincoln College President David Gerlach says the pandemic and an Iranian cyber attack led to the announcement that the college was closing it’s doors. He noted that the college is at a disadvantage due to it’s history and connections when speaking with WJBC’s Blake Haas.
“Because of our history and because of our connections we don’t have deep pocket alumni that could make an difference,” Gerlach said.
“This is a place worthy being invested into. We have shown success in the turnaround plan that we were operating in. It breaks my heart that these student who have not had educational opportunities in their past that this is going to be taken away from them.”
President Gerlach said progress was being made before the Iranian hack occurred. He is still making efforts to find donors to help the college stay open, but has found nothing in his pursuit.
The College is expected to close May 13.
