BLOOMINGTON – Following a homicide committed on Friday night, McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathleen Yoder identified Friday’s shooting victim as 17 year old Kanye A. Stowers of Peoria. Stowers was pronounced deceased on Saturday at 12:25 a.m.
Preliminary autopsy opinion indicates that Stowers died from a gunshot wound. Toxicology testing is pending.
Just after 11:30 p.m., Bloomington police responded to the 400 block of East Mill Street for a disturbance call. Police found Stowers lying on the steps of the residence with a gunshot wound.
“I want to give my sincerest condolences to the family of the 17 year old shooting victim. Our department is conducting a thorough and complete investigation. We also request that anyone with information to contact Detective Brad Melton at 309-434-2537 or contact Detective Brock Merritt 309 434-2359,” said Police Chief Jamal Simington.
According to our news partner Heart of Illinois ABC, police say just before arriving on scene, gunshots were heard in the area.
This incident remains under investigation by the Bloomington Police Department and the McLean County Coroner’s Office. At this time, no arrests have been made.
