SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) warns that cases of COVID-19 are slowly rising in many areas of the state.
The latest daily total is more than 3,300 new cases, the highest number in nearly two months.
Deaths and hospitalizations seem to be holding steady; however, the state agency is calling on the public to get vaccinated.
“Hospitals have told us consistently that most of the individuals that are getting hospitalized and are at risk are individuals 50 and older, but also either unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated,” said State Public Health Acting Director Dr. Amaal Tokars.
According to Dr. Tokars, all but far Southeastern Illinois are considered at low risk for transmission.
