BLOOMINGTON – Starting in June, the Town of Normal, City of Bloomington and other neighboring communities will begin a new aggregation rate program. All communities were able to secure an electricity rate of $.07859 per kilowatt-hour for the next three years for people who participate in the aggregation program.

Residents who participate in the municipal aggregation program will save an average of $351 from July 2022 through May 2023 on personal electricity bills versus those using the default Ameren rates announced this week.

Residents are automatically enrolled in the program and don’t have to do anything to remain in it but can opt out for no charge.

Letters from Constellation New Energy are being mailed to all participants giving them an opportunity to opt out of the city’s program if they so choose.

With aggregation, the City of Bloomington, Town of Normal and other communities belong to a consortium of municipalities, school districts, small businesses, and others aggregating more than 60,000 electric accounts to purchase power at a reduced rate. The City passes those savings on to aggregation participants and does not benefit from resident participation.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
