MCHD: Data suggest McLean County is at a high COVID-19 community level

BLOOMINGTON – An uptick in cases of COVID-19 is putting the McLean County Health Department on high alert.

Recent CDC data suggest the county is at a high COVID-19 community level, meaning there is potential for strain on the health care system.

“(Cases) have been steady, but they’ve been higher. So that’s hospitalizations, and covid hospital admissions is what has put us into high community levels,” she told WJBC’s Neil Doyle.

Earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported the county saw 15.1 new hospital admissions of COVID-19 per 100,000 people.

“While (cases) have been high, they have not been where we have (had) the Omicron surge or even the Delta (variant) serge in terms of about what we are seeing.”

The county recently announced a new COVID-19 testing center, located at 616 N. Main St. in Bloomington.
