BLOOMINGTON – Schools will be able to teach students about proper gun storage under a new state law.
The measure was sponsored by Rep. Maura Hischauer (D-Batavia), who said the law is not a mandate.
“The aim of this bill is to increase awareness of safe firearm storage by using a trusted source of information in our school. This bill is not a curriculum mandate; it simply allows districts to include safe storage curriculum in their school safety curriculum.”
The bill was supported on the House floor by Rep Avery Bourne (R-Morrisonville).
The law takes effect next year.
