BLOOMINGTON – Thousands of Special Olympics athletes from across the state will be in Bloomington Normal to compete in the Special Olympics Illinois State Summer Games later this week.

This annual event will be held predominately at Illinois State University with additional competition at Normal Community High School and Kingsley Junior High.
Competition will be held in Athletics (Track and Field), Swimming, Bocce, Gymnastics (Rhythmic and Artistic), Powerlifting, and Soccer.
Director of State Championships for Special Olympics Illinois, Nate Henry, says volunteers are still needed.
“Mainly at Illinois State University, but we also have powerlifting taking place at Kingsley Junior High, and we have swimming and rhythmic gymnastics competitions going on at Normal Community High School this year. Volunteers are definitely needed at those places as well,” Henry said.
The event will start on Friday, June 17, and will run through the weekend culminating on Sunday. More information about the Summer Games can be found www.soill.org/blog/events/summer-games.
