BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington is advising the public of a carp disease at Lake Bloomington.
After numerous messages from the Lake Bloomington Community, it’s reported that there is a large number of dead fish at the lake.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has noted the situation is not a water quality issue and should not be a cause for worry.
The IDNR passed along the following information, “Disease outbreaks are generally short in duration and most fish viruses are not transmissible to humans, but that does not mean you can’t get sick from handling sick fish.”
Fishermen are advised to only keep healthy fish, swimming upright, with brightly colored gills and clear eyes, without lesions on the body.
Anyone with concerns regarding the carp disease are urged to contact IDNR at www.ifishillinois.org/contact/contact.php.
