BLOOMINGTON – On July 5, Miller Park Zoo received a baby mulefoot hog and the Zoo needs your help to name him before his public debut in August.
In late May, a litter of mulefoot hogs were born at Coop’s Mound Mulefoots in Carlinville, Ill. From that litter, one male was chosen to make the two-hour drive to his new home at Miller Park Zoo.
The Zoo has big plans for this little hog, and the fun starts with an exciting contest says former Zoo Superintendent Jay Tetzloff.
“We put it out on Facebook. We got 85 responses and staff narrowed it down to three. Now we are letting the community vote with their dollars. The opportunities are Cricket, Morty, and Rupert. Whatever receives the most money wins and all the money goes to our conservation fund,” Tetzloff said.
Voting will be open through July 31 and the name that raises the most money will be selected for the mulefoot hog.
You can cast your vote three ways.
1) Vote at Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington.
2) Voting can be found on the Zoo’s social media pages.
3) Votes can be entered at mpzs.org.
