NORMAL – A late Monday-night letter to employees confirms Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe is looking at “adopting major cost down efforts” on the heels of a report suggesting layoffs.

On Monday, Bloomberg reported the possibility that the company could cut up to 700 jobs.

“The hardest part of this process has been working through our organization to assess the size and structure of our teams and how well this aligns with our strategic plan,” Scaringe noted. “Our team is the core of Rivian, and we are working to be as thoughtful as possible as we consider any reductions.”

According to the report, the cuts could focus on “nonmanufacturing roles,” but it’s unclear what that means for the Normal facility.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
