TOWANDA – An elderly man from Normal was killed in a single-vehicle traffic crash in Towanda Saturday night.
72-year-old Timothy A. Jobe was pronounced dead on the scene at the intersection of U.S. Route 66 and North 1900 East Road just before 9:30 p.m., according to McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder.
An investigation found Jobe went through an intersection, left the roadway and struck a tree.
An autopsy revealed the cause of death was multiple blunt injuries of the chest due to a sport utility vehicle striking a tree, ischemic heart disease, and evidence of very recent and older heart attacks, as well as cardiac surgery.
The coroner’s office said the autopsy findings explained his sudden unresponsiveness while driving without evidence of steering, breaking, or course correction of his SUV.
A toxicology report is pending and the incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police and the McLean County Coroner’s Office.
