State rainy day fund reaches a record $1B

SPRINGFIELD – After the latest deposit, the state’s rainy day fund just surpassed $1 billion.

According to Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza, the state’s fund is reaching record numbers.

“We want to make sure that it’s as big as possible because god forbid another economic downturn; you know you hear talk about a possible recession; we want to be prepared for whatever economic downturn comes our way.”
