NORMAL – The Illinois State women’s basketball program is mourning the loss of former Redbird player Simone Goods, who passed away on Saturday after a courageous battle with cancer.
“I know I speak for our entire woman’s basketball program, and all of Redbird Nation when I say that I am beyond heartbroken by the news of Simone’s passing,” said ISU head coach Kristen Gillespie in a news release. “Simone was a fierce competitor on the court and was a kind soul to all that she encountered. She was a winner in all phases of her life. Her memory will always be close to our hearts, and we will honor her in all we do moving forward.”
Goods joined the Illinois State program in 2017. When her ISU career came to an end, she ranked in the top-25 in field goals made in a season (190), rebounds in a season (238), career free-throws (227), career blocks (51) and blocks in a season (33).
More details regarding memorials and visitation plans will be forthcoming once they are made available.
