LIVINGSTON COUNTY – On the heels of a triple-murder guilty verdict against a Collum man, Livingston County’s State Attorney is looking back on the week and a half long trial.
Last week jurors in Livingston County convicted Clifford Brewer, 55, of killing three people in 2019.
Livingston County State Attorney Randy Yedinak, who was elected in 2016, said his office is proud of their work despite all the difficulties.
“We were very confident in the case that Illinois State Police gave us,” he told WJBC’s Todd Wineburner. “As a prosecutor, I tell the police agencies all the time that when we win a jury trial, or we get a conviction, I say, ‘look, we’re only playing the cards that we are delt, and you guys are giving us the hand.”
During the trial Yedinak said Brewer shot his wife Shirley Brewer, 48, his son, Christian Brewer, 27, and his neighbor Normal Walker, 51, on Christmas morning in 2019.
After three hours of deliberation, the jury convicted Brewer, who faces a mandatory life sentence at a sentencing hearing in October.
“It was an all-in-out team effort. I think, that the jury’s veridct shows that it was a team effort,” added Yedinak.
