BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington has named a new director of the Miller Park Zoo.
Jay Pratte comes to the city after holding positions with the Dallas Zoo, Zoo Atlanta, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium and the Utica Zoo.
He replaces Jay Tetzloff who served as the zoo’s director for 13 years. Tetzloff left the post in mid-July for a new job in Iowa.
Pratte is also the president and founding board member of the international nonprofit The Bear Care Group.
According to a city news release, Pratte has provided expert care for animals in game farms, sanctuaries, and AZA-accredited zoos & aquariums, with species ranging from ant colonies to giant pandas.
“It’s a true honor to be chosen for the Director’s position,” said Pratte. “I look forward to working with the incredible staff across all areas of Miller Park Zoo as we face the exciting future ahead of us.”
His first day as director of the Miller Park Zoo will be September 26.
