NORMAL – Last week, a fraternity at Illinois State University spray painted anti-LGBTQ profanity on other Greek homes, causing a reaction from students and the school.
“Any kind of act of vandalism is something that we don’t condone and certainly the derogatory statements that are printed out against other communities is something that we certainly don’t condone,” ISU Director of Media Relations Eric Jome said.
Jome says the university condemns both the vandalism and the use of derogatory words. They say they are following the conduct code for disciplinary actions.
“The student conduct process will play out,” Jome said.
In a social media post, ISU PRIDE called on the interfraternity council to take sufficient disciplinary action, and to not only deal with this situation but to make sure it does not happen again.
ISU’s Sorority Fraternity Life also posted to social media offering an open group processing session for those affected by the vandalism.
