NORMAL – Actor and Illinois native Jane Lynch was given the highest honor from the Illinois Broadcasters Association. The former Illinois State Redbird is now in its Hall of Fame.

The comedian, actor and author’s screen delivery and sharp style has made her a recognizable figure, as well as a household name. You may have seen her showing her love of our state in her appearances in Illinois Tourism commercials

Lynch has been entertaining audiences for over twenty-five years. You may know her from her roles in “Glee,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” or “The Weakest Link” just to name a few.

While accepting her award, she said she believes the determination she found to continue her career, is the same that all of those in Illinois share. “That gumption that we have here in the Midwest, particularly in Illinois. I say it in one of the commercials “we changed the direction of the dang river.” That is how much gumption we have in this state. I am so proud to be an Illinoisan, a Chicagoan, to be a Redbird, and now to be a hall of famer in the IBA”

Lynch is also a five-time Emmy winner, a two-time SAG award winner, and a Golden Globe Winner.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
