BLOOMINGTON – No one was injured after a generator issue caused a fire at a building on State Farm’s Corporate South campus.

State Farm spokesperson Gina Morss-Fischer says a maintenance team performing an equipment check alerted authorities about a small fire.

Bloomington Fire Department Battalion Chief Michael Hartwig says the call came in around 1:30 p.m. for a generator issue that caused engine oil and diesel fuel to catch fire in an exhaust stack.

Everything was contained to the exhaust system, he said.

No one was hurt. The incident happened in the “G” plant, not an employee work area and away from the general employee population.

The cause is still being determined.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
