BLOOMINGTON – The polls are open for the midterm elections as Illinoisans will be voting for statewide offices, members of the General Assembly and members of Congress.

The polls are open until 7 p.m. and you can find your polling place by going to elections.il.gov.

City of Bloomington residents can find more information on the Bloomington Election Commission’s website.

All other McLean County residents can find election information on the McLean County Clerk’s website.

The Illinois State Board of Elections has answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.

Most inquiries are about voting by mail says elections spokesperson Matt Dietrich. That includes those who have requested a mail-in ballot but have changed their mind and want to vote in person.

“The answer in that case is simply take your vote-by-mail ballot with you and go to your polling place, turn in your ballot, and you’ll be allowed to vote in-person and your vote-by-mail ballot will be voided,” said Dietrich.

If you applied for a vote by mail ballot but haven’t received it yet, Dietrich says you can head to your polling place and tell the election judge, who will have you sign an affidavit and let you vote in person.

You can hear election coverage tonight at 6 p.m. from CBS News Radio on AM 1230, FM 102.1 and WJBC.com.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
