BLOOMINGTON – After a four-day trial, a 57-year-old Normal man has been found guilty of 10 counts of possession of child pornography.

A jury found Jeffrey Martin guilty on Thursday.

According to the McLean County State’s Attorney, eight of the counts are class two felonies, which are subject to three to seven years in prison. Two of the counts are class three felonies, subjected to two to five years in prison.

State’s Attorney Erika Reynolds says in a statement that the verdict was a result of an investigation between the Normal and Bloomington Police Departments into child porn identified on a computer later determined to belong to Martin.

Reynolds adds Martin also faces 51 contempt citations for his actions during the four-day trial, which carry up to six months in prison for each charge.

“This verdict would not have been possible but for the cooperation of civilian witnesses, the great work of the Normal Police Department in conjunction with the Bloomington Police Department, and the lead prosecutor Assistant State’s Attorney Kirk Schoenbein,” said Reynolds in a prepared statement.

Martin is set to be sentenced on February 3rd.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
