NORMAL – Voters in Normal will elect three town council members next spring, and the incumbents holding those seats have all filed nominating petitions before Monday’s deadline to get on the April ballot.

Their challengers are not political newcomers, particularly Marc Tiritilli, who’s run twice for mayor, including the 2017 contest in which he lost by just 11 votes to current Mayor Chris Koos.

The other challengers are Andy Byars and Rachael Lund, both appointed by Koos to serve on Normal’s planning commission. The other challenger is Karl Sila, who’s run previously for a council seat and lost.

Incumbent Kathleen Lorenz is running for a third, four-year term, while Karyn Smith and Stan Nord are seeking re-election for second, four-year terms.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
