STANFORD – Stanford Police have arrested a 17-year-old juvenile suspected of stealing a sport utility vehicle that was later found wrecked and abandoned in Urbana.
Police Chief Dustin Carter said in a Facebook post that the SUV was stolen October 31. Police entered the report in a database that can be seen by all law enforcement agencies. Five days later, on November 4, Urbana Police said they recovered the vehicle.
Last week, Carter said police arrested the 17-year-old for theft and criminal trespassing to a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
“While this was an isolated incident within the Village of Stanford, I would like to remind everyone to lock their car doors and houses/garages,” said the chief.
