BLOOMINGTON – As inflation has driven up energy costs, Ameren and Google have teamed up with the Environmental Law and Policy Center, to offer customers some smart savings.

A virtual meeting was held with energy experts to let Ameren Illinois customers know from now until December 31st, they can qualify to get a free Google Nest Thermostat shipped directly to their doors. These smart devices typically cost close to $130.

Tyler Barron, a Consumer Advocate with the Environmental Law and Policy Center says these smart savings are a gift that keeps on giving. “This is a good opportunity to take control of your own energy, to save money on the back end on your bills, and to also do something that’s great for the environment. It’s a win all around.”

The device lets user control the temperature of the home from their smartphone and allows a heating/cooling schedule to be made for more efficient energy use. Ameren estimates they could help customers save between ten and twelve percent on winter heating costs.

For current Ameren Illinois gas or electric customers to see if they qualify, they can visit Ameren’s website.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
