NORMAL – A student at Normal Community High School is receiving attention on the national stage for his work advocating for racial and social justice.
According to a release from the Bloomington NAACP, Bradley Ross Jackson received an NAACP Image Award for Youth Advocacy Friday night, becoming the youngest recipient of the award, and the first youth recipient from the State of Illinois. He will get the chance to walk along the red carpet at the NAACP’s Image Awards Saturday night, an event broadcasted on BET and several CBS affiliates. The event starts at 7:00 p.m., hosted by iconic singer and actress Queen Latifah.
Jackson says in a statement:
“I am humbled and honored to receive this prestigious award. Advocating for racial and social justice is simply part of my DNA, as I enjoy making a positive difference in the lives of others. I will treasure this prestigious award, while representing Bloomington-Normal as I grace the stage and red carpet.”
Jackson was selected for the Youth Advocacy Award for his racial and social advocacy work, community service and scholastic excellence. A National Honor Society student, Jackson is the Founder of the B.E. KIND-Bradley Encourages Kindness Campaign, the President of the Illinois State Youth and College Division, and is the President of the Bloomington-Normal Youth Council. He also serves as Vice-President of Normal Community High School’s Black Student Union, and is a member of the Speech Team, Symphonic Band and Freshmen Mentor.
