SPRINGFIELD – Backers of a bill to hold the out-of-pocket cost of insulin at $35 for a month’s supply brought out a retiree to make their case.
“I (have been) insulin-dependent for well over twenty years, and this is needed legislation for a lot of people,” said Judy Johnson of Springfield. “I am fortunate in that I was a state employee, and insurance covers it, but under new state insurance, you have to get your scripts renewed and all that, and a lot of people don’t want to go to the doctor to get a re-up.”
Senators at a news conference at the Capitol said people should not have to choose between medicine and some other important thing.
The lead sponsor of the bill is State Sen. Laura Murphy (D-Des Plaines).
