SPRINGFIELD – There were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending April 16, 2023. Statewide, the average temperature was 62.7 degrees, 11.5 degrees above normal.
Precipitation averaged 0.65 inches; 0.45 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 11 percent short, 63 percent adequate, and 25 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 8 percent short, 75 percent adequate, and 16 percent surplus.
Corn planted was 10 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 3 percent. Soybeans planted was 4 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 1 percent.
Winter wheat headed was 3 percent, even with the 5-year average. Winter wheat condition was 0 percent very poor, 1 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 21 percent excellent.
