SPRINGFIELD – There were 4.8 days suitable for field work during the week ending July 2, 2023. Statewide, the average temperature was 74.6 degrees, 0.2 degrees above normal.
Precipitation averaged 2.01 inches, 1.03 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 19 percent very short, 13 percent short, 62 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 24 percent very short, 43 percent short, and 33 percent adequate.
Corn silking reached 5 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 13 percent. Corn condition was rated 7 percent very poor, 17 percent poor, 40 percent fair, 32 percent good, and 4 percent excellent.
Soybeans blooming reached 25 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 18 percent. Soybeans setting pods reached 1 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 1 percent. Soybean condition was rated 6 percent very poor, 20 percent poor, 44 percent fair, 27 percent good, and 3 percent excellent.
Winter wheat harvested for grain was 82 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 75 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 4 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 43 percent good, and 34 percent excellent.
