CHAMPAIGN – It’s been said, “all politics is local.” To hear U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg talk, you could say, “all transportation is local.”
Celebrating a road safety project in Savoy, in Champaign County, Buttigieg said Monday, “Part of what makes this such an important moment in the life of American transportation infrastructure is the 35,000-and-counting projects that I would describe more as ‘backyard projects.’ You know, everybody knows where the Golden Gate Bridge is; not everybody knows where Curtis Road is, but everybody here knows how important it is.”
After that event in Savoy, Buttigieg visited a light-rail maintenance center in East St. Louis.
