SPRINGFIELD – There were 5.2 days suitable for field work during the week ending September 24, 2023. Statewide, the average temperature was 68.3 degrees, 5.8 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.81 inches, 0.02 inches above normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 15 percent very short, 31 percent short, 50 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 13 percent very short, 37 percent short, 49 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.

Corn dented reached 97 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 91 percent. Corn mature reached 81 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 61 percent. Corn harvested reached 10 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 13 percent. Corn condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 7 percent excellent.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 85 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 55 percent. Soybeans harvested reached 6 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 7 percent. Soybean condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 8 percent excellent.

Wheat planted reached 10 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 2 percent.
