SPRINGFIELD – A state trooper wounded during a Springfield traffic stop Tuesday was honored on the House floor the next day.

State Rep. Brad Fritts (R-Dixon) says Kody Green’s fiancee is his legislative aide. And Fritts is frustrated at lawmakers’ inaction. “Do you want to live in a world that protects the rights of criminals, or do you want to live in a world that protects those protect us?” Fritts asked. “Because I know what kind of world I want to live in. But some of us in this room refuse to do anything to make that world a possibility. It’s time to wake up, people, because someday you will get the call that I got this morning.”

A State Police spokeswoman said the wounded trooper is listed in serious condition but would not release or confirm his name.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
