SPRINGFIELD – If you live near a community college in Illinois, get used to this phrase: “For Every Student, For Every Community” is the slogan for the newly named system, “The Community Colleges of Illinois.”

Skylar Stewart of Nokomis can vouch for the education she is getting at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield.

“My experience has been absolutely amazing,” she told a statehouse news conference. “I can’t speak highly enough about it. They make it so easy to learn the material with the small class sizes. The instructors try to know you on a personal level, and you’re not just another student walking through the door.”

The state has 48 community colleges.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
