NORMAL – The Normal West High School boys basketball team will be out in the community on Saturday, raking leaves for Veterans Day.

Wildcats Head Coach Ed Hafermann say’s that the team usually does some sort of community service event ahead of the season each year, and this year, he and his player’s are looking to honor those on Veterans Day.

The basketball team will be out from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. raking leaves for Veterans living in Normal, and will also be making stops in Bloomington.

The Wildcats coach has close ties to Veterans Day, as his father served in the Vietnam War, and his grandfather was a mechanic during World War II in Hawaii. Coach Hafermann spoke with WJBC’s Scott Miller.

“What better way for our guys to show some appreciation for our veterans for all that they do for our community and nation. I think taking three to four hours out of our day is good,” Hafermann said.

If you are or know of a veteran who lives in Normal, to sign up you can email Coach Hafermann [email protected]. Or you can call 309-641-2617.

You can also sign up via a google form link below on the Normal West Basketball website.

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
