SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois secretary of state has a New Year’s resolution for you: “Ditch the DMV.”

Alexi Giannoulias says his office has added so many driver service functions to its web site that you should only have to come to a Drivers and Motor Vehicles facility once every twelve years.

He added for those who absolutely have to come in, his office has improved that experience.

“After booking an appointment online, customers will now receive text notifications requiring them to confirm or cancel,” Giannoulias told a Chicago news conference Thursday, “which will make it easier for our customers to keep track of their appointments – and which also will help us deal with the no-shows we have been having to deal with over the last few months.”

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
