NORMAL – Rivian Automotive plans to launch a cheaper electric vehicle in March.
In a social media post, the electric vehicle producer announced plans to launch the second generation of their vehicles dubbed the “R2”.
Rivian plans to manufacture the new vehicle at its $5 billion manufacturing plant in Georgia.
“Our next set of products…will be smaller in terms of form factor, but also much lower price point,” said company CEO RJ Scaringe on CNBC. “(It will) carry the essence of the brand that we’ve created with R1.”
At its Normal plant, Rivian plans to continue to produce the R1T Truck and the R1S SUV alongside an electric delivery van.
Rivian plans to launch the R-2 on March 7.
