BLOOMINGTON – No one is injured from an early morning apartment building fire in Bloomington that led to a second alarm being sounded.

A second alarm means the initial crew needed more help to battle the blaze at the Brickyard Apartments, 20 Brickyard Drive.

Off-duty firefighters and crews from the Normal Fire Department were called to help, according to Frank Friend, a Bloomington Fire Department spokesman.

The call came in around 6:15 a.m. and while they were on the way, firefighters could see the fire.

Flames were coming out of the second floor and had spread to the building’s third floor and into an attic.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Several apartments within the building were affected.

A cause for the fire has not yet been determined. Restoration crews are at the scene time working with residents to salvage and recover items.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
