BLOOMINGTON – The numbers are out from Bloomington Police’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Super Bowl enforcement campaign.
Thanks to a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation, enforcement ran a detail from Friday, Feb. 9, until Monday, Feb. 12.
During the enforcement detail, 21 drivers were cited for speeding, one person was charged for possessing a controlled substance, and eight stealth belt citations were issued.
In addition, one person was ticketed for distracted driving, and one person was arrested for driving on a suspended license.
“The rules of the road are in place to keep everyone safe and minimize fatalities,” said BPD Chief Jamal Simington in a news release. “BPD will continue enforcing these traffic laws as we aim to save lives and reduce traffic crashes by five percent in 2024.”
Bloomington’s detail ran parallel with a statewide “drive sober or get pulled over” campaign.
